Last year, during a study trip to the Czech Republic, I met Roma people through a photo project and started a series of family portraits. Now I am determined to continue working on it and, through photographic and journalistic approaches, to find a format together with the families to give their story a voice. Of course, I need help with this, because I want to intensely engage with the stories of the people, and that doesn’t work without language. Our project “What am I doing here two? II”, a photo workshop for young female refugees, shows you the results from 4 workshop days. The small, lovely art festival “Tandaradai” of the Indian settlement, Cologne Klettenberg, invites us to be there from May 27 – May 28 with an outdoor exhibition. Spaces still available— We’re running a three-day photography workshop for refugee girls in March! Who wants to join? Participation is free. The project is funded by the Ministry of Innovation and Research and will take place at the Bürgerzentrum Ehrenfeld. This year’s Artists Gathering in Fez, Morocco, has an exciting theme: Art in the Time of Crisis. If we don’t talk about it now, when will we?! Omar Chennafi, the founder of the Gathering, has invited international artists and theorists to discuss the topic from various perspectives from January 12-14.
